Matted Dog Consent Form

Effective: 2026 7408 20th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11204

Purpose of This Form

This consent form is required before Tiny Tails Grooming can perform any de-matting treatment on your dog. Please read the following information carefully. By signing, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to the terms outlined below.

What Is Matting?

Matting occurs when a dog's fur becomes severely tangled and knotted — often due to infrequent brushing, moisture, or the natural movement of the coat. Mats can form close to the skin and range from mild tangles to dense, compacted knots that restrict movement, trap moisture, and cause skin irritation.

The De-Matting Process

At Tiny Tails, we approach de-matting with patience and care. Our process may include:

Please be aware: In cases of severe matting, shaving may be the only safe option. Attempting to brush out tight mats can cause significant pain and skin damage. Your groomer will always choose the safest approach for your dog's wellbeing.

Potential Risks & Outcomes

While our team takes every precaution, de-matting can occasionally reveal or cause the following conditions that were pre-existing or developed under the matted coat:

These conditions are not caused by the grooming process itself — they are the result of prolonged matting. We will do our best to identify and communicate any concerns we observe during the groom.

Pricing

De-matting treatment is charged as an add-on to your standard grooming service. The additional cost ranges from $20 to $50 depending on the severity and extent of the matting. Your groomer will assess the coat upon arrival and advise you of any additional charges before beginning.

Our Commitment

We will always prioritize your dog's comfort and safety. If at any point we feel the de-matting process is causing undue stress or risk to your dog, we will stop and consult with you before proceeding. We are happy to answer any questions you may have before the appointment begins.
